A player notebook for your local pool

Updated June 2026 · by Tom Howcroft

Your live edge is partly a notebook. The same faces appear every week, and a read you do not record is a read you re-buy. Overshove keeps your reads structured, searchable and private.

Reads that do not evaporate

You work out a tendency once, then forget it by next week and pay for it again. Capturing the read turns one session of observation into a lasting edge against a recurring opponent.

Organised by venue and seat

Tag reads by room and seat, with a short profile and a tell or two. When you sit down at a venue, the regs you have profiled are right there, not in a memory you are not sure you can trust.

Private by default

Your notes are yours and private unless you choose otherwise. Note tendencies, keep them concise, and update them when a player clearly changes their game.

What you get
  • Structured reads with a profile and tells.
  • Tagged by venue and seat, searchable when you sit.
  • Private by default; your notes stay yours.
  • Built for the recurring live pool, not anonymous online tables.

How this fits the review loop

This feature earns its place only if it makes the next session cleaner. The Overshove loop is deliberately small: log the session, read the number beside the sample, mark the useful hand or leak, then carry one action into study. If a feature cannot support that loop, it stays out of the way.

Judge it with your own data. A strong feature should reduce skipped sessions, make a cost visible, stop a bad stake decision, or give your coach a cleaner packet. Pretty charts are optional; a decision you can defend is the point.

Questions

Is taking notes on players allowed?

Yes. Overshove is a between-sessions notebook you write up away from the table, so it stays clear of any in-hand device or overlay rule. You jot reads after the session, not during a hand.

How detailed should a note be?

A short profile and a tell or two is plenty. Concise, searchable notes get used; long essays do not.
