Logging live without being that guy
The objection to live logging is social: nobody wants to be the guy buried in a spreadsheet at the table. The fix is a routine fast and quiet enough that no one notices.
Start fast, finish later
At the buy-in, log the essentials in seconds, venue, stake, buy-in, and start the clock. That is all you need at the table. The detail, the notes and the marked hands can wait for the cool-down on the drive home.
Mark, do not write
When a hand matters, mark it in one tap and move on. Reconstructing the read live is what makes you that guy; a single marked spot you flesh out later is invisible to the table and far more useful than a memory you will not have.
The table-safe routine
Keep the at-table routine brutally small. On arrival: stake, venue, buy-in, clock. During play: mark a hand only if it changes the study queue. On cash-out: result and end time. That is it. No range essay in seat four, no five-minute note while the dealer waits, no spreadsheet open beside the chips. The review happens after the session, when you can think clearly and nobody else is paying for your admin.
What to capture later
The cool-down is where the useful detail lives. Add the rake model, tips, travel, mood, table quality and the hand notes you marked in play. Then write one next action: a solver check, a river-call leak, a value-bet spot, or a player note to remember next time. If a log does not produce one better decision for the next session, it is just bookkeeping with better colours.
Why every session counts
Skipping logs after losing sessions is the leak hidden inside the tracking habit. The data you least want to enter is usually the data that protects the sample from flattering you. A quiet at-table routine removes the excuse: you can record the ugly sessions before your memory and pride start editing them.
